Susana Riazuelo

SUSANA RIAZUELO

Born in Venezuela, she trained as a classical dancer at the Rambert School in London and the Escuela Ballet-Arte in Caracas. At the age of 16 she was granted a scholarship to continue her studies at the School of American Ballet in New York. Back in Venezuela, she joined the Ballet Nacional de Caracas where she performed lead roles in classical and neoclassical productions.

In 1996 she was signed as soloist by the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the direction of Richard Cragun. This was followed by Aterballetto in Italy, Lyon Opera Ballet in France, in Spain with Ballet de Victor Ullate and Compañía Nacional de Danza (Nacho Duato).

In 2008 she studied stage design at the Escuela Superior de Arte y Espectáculos located in Madrid. She made seven productions as stage designer for choreographer Gentian Doda all performed by Compañía Nacional de Danza. In 2013 she became first ballet master with Victor Ullate´s company in Madrid, as well as teaching creative dance for children.

She moved her base to Berlin in September 2014 and is a free lance artist, stage designer and guest teacher with Norwegian National Ballet, Lyon Opera Ballet, Aterballetto, StaatsBallet Berlin, Gothenburg Ballet, Grupo Corpo (Brazil), Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Compañía Nacional de Danza de Madrid, Marameo Berlin, Finnish National Ballet, Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal, Zürich Ballet, Ballet Hispánico of New York and Nederlands Dans Theater.
